How little you can tell us
Legwork needs a name to put beside a leg and a training time to project a pace from. It does not need those to be true, and it does not need them to be the same ones you gave us last year. This page is what you can decline and what declining costs you, in plain terms.
Your name can be different in every race
The name on a roster is a label your van reads at three in the morning. It has to be one your teammates recognise. Nothing checks it against anything, no two teams are joined by it, and you are free to be Wheels on one team and your legal name on another.
If you have the app, open the roster, tap yourself, and edit the name. It is your own record and you can always change it. If a captain typed something you would rather not carry, that is the fix, and you do not have to ask anybody.
If you are not installing anything, tell whoever is holding the roster what to put. They are typing it either way.
You never have to give us an email address
You can be on a roster, be assigned legs, have your pace projected and have your handoffs recorded without an email address existing anywhere in our records. Plenty of runners on plenty of teams are exactly that. A teammate records the handoffs and the race works.
What an address buys is the two things that need to reach you rather than your van: an invitation sent by mail, and an account that lets you sign in on a new phone and carry your pace to next year's team. Decline it and you lose those, and nothing else. You will be handed the team by somebody standing next to you instead, which is how most people join anyway.
What we cannot let you decline
Some name and some reference effort have to exist, because a projection is arithmetic on them and a van is dispatched from the result. A roster with a blank where a runner goes is a van that leaves at the wrong time. That is the floor, and it is a short one.
Your handoff times are the race. They are recorded by a teammate at the chute, they are what everybody's screen is reading, and they are not optional in any version of this app.
Getting out afterwards
None of this is a one-time decision. You can change the name later, remove the address later, or ask for the whole record to go — without an account, from an address we have never seen, at support@legwork.team. See Deleting your data and our Privacy Policy.
